Frustration with class!

A lot of my fellow students in my class have expressed frustration regarding the syllabus and the lack of communication the professor provides. We post our questions in a question and answer section and lo and behold!! No response whatsoever. We cannot get clarification on anything, so far all we get is, "consult the syllabus". Well that's just dandy, but the syllabus does not actually answer any questions. We are all at least junior and senior level college students, some are grad students, I think it should be clear that if all of us are having questions about the same things, then maybe there is actually a problem with the syllabus, and not the students!! For the first time since I enrolled, I have a doubt about my ability to succeed in a class. I have always gotten A's in my classes, but if I can't even figure out what I am supposed to turn in and when, what chance do I have?

I hope it gets better, otherwise this is going to be a very, very long semester!!

Sounds like Deja vu' to me! Unfortunately, there are some professors who really don't deserve that title. No names, of course but I took at least to courses like that within a year's time (both LIS courses) where the professor wouldn't for some odd reason make the syllabus for her particular class more understandable for all students. It sucks, but hang in there. Keep at it and hopefully your professor will respond soon. It is more of a negative reflection on the part of the professor, not necessarily the student if there's information left unclear and many, if not all of the students are experiencing the same type of difficulty. Hang in there, my friend! I think this might make for a good complaint to the person in charge. :)

Sorry, I meant 'two' courses, lol.

Course evaluations are important tools and faculty do take this information to heart. Constructive criticism with examples of what you might have preferred would be better than complaints. Remember, not providing this feedback means that nothing went wrong in the class.

Andy, you're right about that, but the course evaluations don't come into play until the end of the course, and I need resolution now. I am not just complaining, I am also asking repeatedly for help from the professor on the discussion board as well as emailing questions, and still getting no response. Oh well, I will just keep on keeping on I guess.

Oh no! Don't stress. It's the beginning of the semester, so once everyone is on the same page then you might start enjoying the class. Maybe do what you think he wants, even after "consulting the syllabus" several times already. If you're doing something incorrectly, then the prof will chime in. Or see what everyone else is doing and mimic them. (that's the beauty of online classrooms - you see what everone else is doing). Best of luck! (And don't stress yourself!)
